Ok, I fired up a new box, installed the Catalyst 14.12 software under Windows 7. It's an R9-280x, which should be able to run Boinc. Yet, all im seeing in the tool is the CPU being used. I already set the location to one which supports GPU's, but no joy. |

Please post your Boinc startup from the Event Log, the first 30 lines or so will do. Claggy |

Try asking at the Milkyway forum - there's a recent thread called AMD R9 290X does not receive any GPU work. I believe they haven't updated their server software in a while, and the current code can't handle the detection strings from the R9 range. |

4/30/2015 12:59:03 PM | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: Hawaii (driver version 1642.5 (VM), device version OpenCL 2.0 AMD-APP (1642.5), 4096MB, 4096MB available, 3555 GFLOPS peak) Your GPU is reporting OpenCL Support, But no CAL support. 4/30/2015 1:04:00 PM | Milkyway@Home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Milkyway at home looks as if they're mixed their planclass specs up a bit, they are reporting your GPU is missing OpenCL support, when it is only missing CAL support, Try a different project, Like Einstein, or Seti. Ill do that, although I got the R9 specifically to run MW@H. Wasn't aware of any issues. I didn't read the entire thread on the link you provided, but it sounds like they are having server resource issues? Is that true? What kind of server resource do they need? I have lots of HP server machines if that will help. |

4/30/2015 1:04:01 PM | Milkyway@Home | Message from server: ATI GPU R600 (R38xx) does not support OpenCL Definitely bad back-end code as it's recognizing this GPU as a HD38xx series (R600), not as the R9-280x that it is. |

Ill do that, although I got the R9 specifically to run MW@H. Wasn't aware of any issues. Scan the thread where you have a moment. The main resource they seem to be lacking seems to be human - BOINC administrators. The project 'scientists' mostly seem to be students, and I don't think they're allowed to have the keys to the server. |

Oh, and the same thread does contain all the resources you need to bypass the dodgy server software - I think with all the typos sorted out in the end. |

Ratz, I was hoping to fire-up some workload and crank out some work units... |

Tried SETI, but im not getting ANY work. Just connected to their project, but didn't setup anything as I don't know that project or how they do things. I deleted the MW@H project, but I still see references to it below. 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | cc_config.xml not found - using defaults 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Starting BOINC client version 7.4.42 for windows_x86_64 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Libraries: libcurl/7.39.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1j zlib/1.2.8 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Running under account admin 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: Hawaii (driver version 1642.5 (VM), device version OpenCL 2.0 AMD-APP (1642.5), 4096MB, 4096MB available, 3555 GFLOPS peak) 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | OpenCL CPU: AMD Sempron(tm) 145 Processor (OpenCL driver vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., driver version 1642.5 (sse2), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1642.5)) 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Host name: m1 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Sempron(tm) 145 Processor [Family 16 Model 6 Stepping 3] 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 pni cx16 popcnt syscall nx lm svm sse4a osvw ibs skinit wdt page1gb rdtscp 3dnowext 3dnow 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | OS: Microsoft Windows 7: Ultimate x64 Edition, (06.01.7600.00) 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Memory: 3.98 GB physical, 3.98 GB virtual 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Disk: 29.72 GB total, 15.38 GB free 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Local time is UTC -7 hours 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | SETI@home | URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 7561317; resource share 100 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | General prefs: from http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/ (last modified 21-Apr-2015 13:11:44) 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Computer location: home 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Preferences: 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | max memory usage when active: 2038.35MB 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | max memory usage when idle: 3669.03MB 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | max disk usage: 14.38GB 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 25% 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | (to change preferences, visit a project web site or select Preferences in the Manager) 4/30/2015 2:22:48 PM | | Not using a proxy |

I deleted the MW@H project, but I still see references to it below. Yes, that's where your general (computing) preferences come from. If you want another project to take over on those preferences, you'll have to change some prefs there, then Update BOINC on that project. |
