Hi - I have been using BOINC for about six years and would like to schedule it to run only in the evenings (from 19:00 to 07:00 the following day). I have been unable to figure out how to do this, as the Options - Computing preferences dialog box only allows you to enter one time period per day, while I need two periods (00:00 to 07:00 and 17:00 to 23:59). Is there any easy way to do this? I am running 7.6.9(x64) on a Windows 10 machine. Many thanks Dave |

One period should be fine. Start time = 19:00, end time = 07:00. |

I tried the suggestion on my two computers - one worked and one didn't. Both are Windows 10 (64 bit),though the versions are different - one is Pro (doesn't work - Hostid is 6140122), the other is Home (works OK - Hostid is 7360927). The same version of BOINC is running on both. The global_prefs_override.xml files both contain the following lines <start_hour>19.000000</start_hour> <end_hour>7.000000</end_hour> <day_prefs> <day_of_week>0</day_of_week> <start_hour>0.00</start_hour> <end_hour>23.98</end_hour> </day_prefs> <day_prefs> <day_of_week>6</day_of_week> <start_hour>0.00</start_hour> <end_hour>23.98</end_hour> </day_prefs> Any suggestions as to why this happening? Many thanks Dave |

Hostid is 6140122, Hostid is 7360927. Your computers have no hostID at the BOINC web site, so without telling which project they run at, we have no idea where to look.
I see someone messed up the minute setting on these values and changed everything to decimals. Great. As for why they work on one system and not on the other, not a clue. Unless you lack permission to write to the data directory one the one system. Personally I steer away from Windows 10, what with the whole "totally no privacy debacle" that's springing up around it. So I have no experience with the quirks of that OS. |

What does the one that doesn't work do? Runs all day / doesn't run at all? Have you set it to Run always instead of Run based on preferences? Is date and time set correctly on the not working one? |

Thank you Juha - although I have been running BOINC for many years, it has been pretty much with the default settings, so I am pretty low on the learning curve. It was my desktop pc that was running all of the time because it was set to run all of the time (duh!) - I have to confess that I didn't even know that option existed much less that I had set it that way. Thanks for your post Ageless. I have found Windows 10 to be very good so far. I too had your concerns regarding privacy. Articles like this http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2015/08/05/stop-windows-10-spying-dead-in-its-tracks-with-one-free-app/ were a big help in configuring Windows 10 to be less invasive. Many thanks Dave |
