Hello,

I was running Boinc without problem until now with the same PC configuration.
This morning I received a message via the notification board of Boinc that a new version was available.
Fine, I went grab it.

However, the installing is not running as expected.
the installation Wizard is looking unsuccesfully for the installation package Boinc.msi
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{5EA96FB5-594F-45CC-860F-DA986C816392}\
Error 1706. no valid source could be found... etc ...
although the same package was decompressed by the Wizard 2 steps earlier..

I tried also with a previous version of Boinc, but I encountered the same issue. Now, Boinc is not installed at all.

I run under Win10Pro - 64-bit OS x64-based proc - AMD PhenomII X4 3.4GHz

Anythings I might be doing wrongly ?

I've been running BOINC projects since 2000; and while I've experienced similar install problems over the years, they have been fixed easily - until now. My problem is identical to message 74820. I'm running Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit OS, AMD Radeon HD 7700 series.

Any help will be greatly appreciated..

Ah, the old .msi problem.
Try this FAQ:
Windows Installer Error 1706: Setup cannot find the required files / 1714: older version cannot be removed / BOINC.msi cannot be found / The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable / Error 1325. is not a valid short name

feedback : I proceeded with the first instruction of Step 2
and it worked perfectly.
no data were lost during the process.

And just in time. As all the time before the whole Mundayweb domain was offline due to a MySQL database error.

By the way, not in the FAQ, but apparently also a repair option is Microsoft Fix It, a tool that removes erroneous registry entries. (Which in this case is the matter).

The Microsoft FixIt hasn't work for me and the referenced FAQ requires you do a repair install. Question: How do you perform a repair install using Windows10 - process does not offer "repair" as an option.

I did attempt to reinstall 7.6.22 but got the same message as trying to install 33 - couldn't find the BOINC.msi file.

Repair or remove programs for Windows 10 writes:

To repair many programs, go to Control Panel.

    In Search, enter Control Panel and select Control Panel.
    Select Programs > Programs and Features, and then select the program.
    To fix the program, select Repair or, if that’s not available, Change.
    Follow the directions on the screen.

This is getting ridiculous: Following jord's MS instructions did not work. I can't uninstall or repair my old version of BOINC and therefore can't install the latest version. I suspect the villian is Windows 10 but can't figure out how the negate, or navigate around, the issue. Any thoughts?

Success - finally!
Moral of the experience: Don't attempt software updates late at night when your brain isn't properly engaged.
