Hi, I am using boinc-client 7.6.33 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu on a Debian linux system. Projects: World Community Grid Since a couple of days, the client has stopped processing tasks, and I can't find out why. The 'Projects' tab shows a status with 'Communication deferred' with a countdown. The 'Tasks' tab does not show active tasks, the only I see have a 'Progress' to 100% and a 'Status' of 'Computation error'. The event log says: Computation for task <task_name> finished Output file <file_name> for task <task_name> absent I have also looked in the working directory and the file 'client_state.xml' has some 'result' nodes showing errors, for example: <result>
<final_cpu_time>0.000000</final_cpu_time> <final_elapsed_time>0.000000</final_elapsed_time> <exit_status>11</exit_status> <state>3</state> <platform>x86_64-pc-linux-gnu</platform> <version_num>736</version_num> <stderr_out> <message> process got signal 11 </message> <stderr_txt> SIGSEGV: segmentation violation </stderr_txt> </stderr_out> <ready_to_report/> <completed_time>1483517346.204083</completed_time> <wu_name>MCM1_0129167_4365</wu_name> <report_deadline>1484122135.000000</report_deadline> <received_time>1483517335.770686</received_time> <file_ref> <file_name>MCM1_0129167_4365_0_r440426764_0</file_name> <open_name>result.out</open_name> </file_ref> </result> Do you have any ideas of what happened and how to get the boinc client running again ? Thanks and best regards, Dimitri |

Did you check the World Community Grid forums for messages about this? Perhaps more people have the problem, perhaps the sub-project you chose ran out of work, perhaps it no longer supports Linux. In any case, it is something best asked over there. "Communication deferred" means the project stopped sending you tasks, it's not something BOINC did or that we can fix. |

You are most probably running Debian Stretch and recently updated to the 4.8 Kernel series. This kernel disabled a feature (for security reasons) that is used by some applications. You should post in the project forums maybe you just need to select a different application which does not use this feature. |

Hi, It seems indeed caused by a kernel version upgrade, since I did the test of booting the OS with Linux 4.7, and everything is fine (i.e. the client processing tasks normally). I'll ask the WCG project guys. Thanks a lot for you help! |
