running AMD fx-9590 8 core cpu on Asus sabertooth 990fx board. WIN 10 home 64. PC crashes when I set more than 2 cores. Last machine was an AMD 6 core running on an Asus board with WIN 10 home 64. Could run 4 cores at 100% (heat limited) |

Which projects do you run? Are you using a GPU? Is your PSU adequate enough to serve all in the system? Are you using after-market cooling on the CPU, or the fan that came with it? If after-market, what? How hot does the CPU become? Did the CPU come with the heat-sink&fan already on, or did you do that? If you did, what kind of cooling paste did you put between them? In Windows Event Viewer, what kinds of errors does it give? |

Thanks for responding. All projects including Beta Radeon R-7. I checked the GPU allowed box. Will be installing a video card upgrade today. Gamer style Rated at 650 watts Aftermarket Corsair H90 water cooler 100 to 110 F. Mostly 102 to 104 F. with 2 cores engaged I did that New, fresh silver something. I'm not familiar with event viewer. I assume it's a log file? Where do I find it? |

All projects including BetaWhich tells me exactly nothing. All projects as in all at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php? Which one(s) run when the PC cuts out? Gamer style Rated at 650 wattsWhich doesn't tell me anything either. Check if it doesn't show on the Johnny Lucky PSU Lemon List or that its brand doesn't live in tier 5 of the older Newegg Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List. Some PSUs don't output what they are branded on, others can take your hardware with them when they go. 100 to 110 F.Is that on all 8 cores? Is that idle, or under load? Is that with throttling, or without? You do know that 140F (60C) is the maximum safe operating temperature according to AMD? New, fresh silver something.Arctic Silver? Only applied on the CPU or heat sink? It doesn't spill over on the sides of the CPU onto (parts of) the motherboard? Thermal compound with silver in it can conduct electricity, and so when it's spilled onto soldering on the motherboard, electricity going through there can hit the CPU, which isn't good. I'm not familiar with event viewer. I assume it's a log file? Where do I find it? Start->Search->event viewer->Event Viewer. How to Use Event Viewer in Windows 10. |

fightaids@home mapping cancer markers openZika outsmart ebola together These files ran for a few seconds. I've tried adding 1 core at at time and the computer crashes and reboots when I add the 3rd core. My power supply is a Corsair TX650W. It's not on Johnny's list. It's run fine for 2 or 3 years. 100 to 110 F. I don't like running hotter than 110 F. With 2 cores running at 100% and the other 6 running under lite load from word processing, playing music, email and light spreadsheet work the temp is usually 104 or 106. I don't use a throttling program. Not arctic silver. Masscool Stars - 700. No, I don't slop it around. Yes, I know it conducts electricity. I'm very careful, the stuff gets all over quite easily. I put it on top of the CPU only. A lite film; no gobs. Wow!! That event viewer is cool!! Thanks. I've been running files for a couple days on 2 cores, so the event is buried. I'll cause the failure again so I can get the event log. I'll do it as soon as I can, but might be awhile. It's snowing again so I have other headaches. Thanks for your help. I'll be back. |

fightaids@home All these are World Community Grid sub-projects. They may need specific requirements that I don't know of. Best ask about that on their forums. As for Event Viewer (and I now fixed my link), if you can remember an old time a crash occurred you can look it up. Anything with a yellow or red marker is of interest. And then the Event ID or the Windows crash message is of need. Also, your title says the PC crashes. What exactly happens? |

You might be able to see something also with this program, if those crashes generate a memory dump: http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed I'm not sure if Windows 10 let's you install or run that program these days. I've had both luck and a few times no luck with it, but it's been a while since I tried. |

I didn't know I should contact the World Community grid for help. I'll do that, sorry. I've contacted Asus, AMD, Microsoft, Boinc and 1 other. Yesterday I had 4 cores running at 10% load. Ran for 2 or 3 minutes then crashed. It seems the higher the load the quicker it crashes. Back to one of your questions about CPU load. When 2 cores are running at 100% the CPU is showing 30% load. I wonder if I'm hitting a high temp cut-off. The temp can spike very quickly. When it crashes - The screen goes blank, the computer reboots and returns to the sign in screen. After I sign in I must catch the Grid program very quickly and set to snooze or it crashes again. |

can you recommend a good "free" throttling program? Haven't had much luck with them in the past. |

TThrottle by Fred: http://efmer.com/b/. Is made specifically with BOINC compliancy. |

I didn't say you needed to ask for help on the crashes at WCG, but if they require specific things I don't know about. :) When it crashes - The screen goes blank, the computer reboots and returns to the sign in screen. After I sign in I must catch the Grid program very quickly and set to snooze or it crashes again. You probably had a blue screen that you didn't see. While the information of such a BSOD is stored in the event viewer, it's probably easier to use a program like BlueScreenView (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html) to see what it said and post that information here. When you do, I'm looking for what the BSOD said, but I don't need an screenshot of it. Just type over what the error says. |

Are your device drivers all correctly installed? Check in Device Manager and make sure there's nothing flagged (it'll show right off). It's not the graphics as you are watching so it's not hitting the screensaver. If you uninstall an older version of part of something of your device managers (such as the nVidia Vulcan drivers), it'll wreack havoc even if you have the newer version installed. That said, you could always check for new device drivers. There's a program there's a free version called Driver Booster: www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php -- if you like it, you can get the full version and deeper search for drivers. I found this one too but I haven't tried it: www.drivermanager.com/ Failing that, best to post over at the WCG forums: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/index Scroll Down to the support section. Trying checking the FAQ first, then if no luck, you can make a post. Providing the same details you did here will greatly aide in troubleshooting your issue. ~Y |
