I had a read of the times version too, just for the purposes of seeing where the focus might differ ;) It was a bit of a waste of time to be honest because I had to peer at it darkened out behind a picture of Theresa May.

Did they just forget to take out building insurance on it, or would none of them cover it? Fair enough, you can't leave an unsafe building lurking about ready to fall on people and it might well cost more to renovate it, but you'd think there'd be some redress against whoever put it up, and signed off the plans *run out of all further knowledge of building buildings... so stop*

I'm so sorry people... I've started the day a tad disgruntled about all the stuff we keep getting so wrong here, and it's awoken my darker, more acid side... I don't mean it really... I'll go away now and give myself a thorough telling off...

Should there be extra security, or extra welcome mats?

The Muslim Council of Britain says a growing Islamophobia needs to be tackled. Assistant secretary general Miqdaad Versi told the Today Programme there should be extra security around mosques.

"What we can see, and what we have seen, is many far right extremists using terminology about getting rid of Muslims, attacking Muslims. We've had petrol bombs thrown at Mosques.

Fair enough and think the " attack " a few hours ago was aimed at the Muslim comunity for the two bridge attacks and Manchester , was only a matter of time before it was going to happen .
The Muslim community NEED to integrate with British society and NOT go off and form little enclaves , it's been happening for a very long time and probably started when i was at school 25 + years ago , if there was more integration of the different cultures then the far right groups like " Britain First , EDL etc would NOT have grown to the problem they are now .
The proverbial WILL hit the fan very soon here and then weve got a full blown race war going and i for one think that's the last thing this fuced up country needs now or ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Odd. The East London Mosque has been working tirelessly for at least three years encouraging non-Muslims to visit the Mosque to meet and greet and enjoy their hospitality - as have those who worship at our local Sikh temple. At considerable expense - free English translations of the Quran are regularly offered in or near busy shopping areas locally, and markets, and questions we have about the true tenets of Islam are openly and honestly answered. It is a peaceful religion.

Perhaps that is being mistaken for "recruiting extremists and poaching Christians"? Don't worry. It isn't :) I have no faith - but it doesn't stop me being interested enough to try to understand the faith of others. I live in an area where we have plenty of opportunities to smile and say hello to people of all races and creeds. Neither I nor they have a problem with that. When I'm struggling home with shopping, and a neighbour drives past who recognises who I am, even though we may never have spoken to one another, they stop and ask if I would like a lift. They're Muslim. I don't get the same offer from people who look like me.

...it's increasingly obvious to me that I am in the minority, like in so many other areas :) and from your post that I'm likely to remain so. That's okay :) I've yet to be targeted for it, but Richard posed a very good question. I think given the persecution and victimisation of Muslims in Britain, additional security should be provided. We wouldn't question it for synagogues would we, but if we did so in conjunction with more welcome mats too, perhaps it won't need to be for too long.

It AIN'T just London it's everywhere in this country or is the only important place London ??? ( know that's the view of a lot of " Londoners " but they are wrong !!!)

I live in London, it's no more important than anywhere else, whether that be in Britain or abroad. I've merely expressed my experience of the East End. I cannot and am not extrapolating that to encompass all of London, let alone anywhere else. I'm sorry if I gave you that impression.

Where did I bring that up anniet??? Don't think i did , i just get a bit pissed when people make London out to be the " Be all and end all " of this country , " us " that live in the " provinces " don't matter , belive me there's shite going on round here to do with race crimes daily / weekly but they don't make the headlines like London does !
