Ok so here is my conundrum, I have a 7th gen intel nuc that was given to me because it "didn't work" Got it fixed and up and running and want to use it for boinc projects. My question for you is, what os works the best for running boinc projects. Doesn't have to be a gui based os as I am semi comfortable in a linux command line environment. Now I know this thing isn't going to be a power house by any means, but it is literally just sitting on my shelf not doing anything at the moment so I figured I might as well make it useful since it hardly uses any power. Any help? Specs on the Nuc: Intel Core i7 (7th Gen) 7567U / 3.5 GHz Dual Core 4 GHz Turbo speed 16GB of ddr4 ram Internal GFX: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 Thanks, Aaron |

As far as I can find, you're stuck on Windows 10 or any Linux with kernel 4.8 and above, because of the CPU (e.g. Ubuntu 16.10). And for that CPU, you may want to check if it's cooled adequately to do what you want it to, because although Intel says it's fine to run these CPUs at 93C continuously, I wouldn't be so sure. And since that's only with a stress test, so temporarily spiked at that heat, whereas Seti for instance will throw that heat out in a sustained manner, I'd also be looking at better cooling. Which may negate the use of the NUC. |
