under windows 10 at the bottom of the task manager screen it shows disconnected. rebooted manager, no help. rebooted computer, no help. upgraded to 7.10, no help. I am running windows defender and Malwarebytes. never had an issue before running both with Boinc. it appears to run task in command line. |

Disconnected means that the manager (graphical user interface) cannot connect to the client (the actual program). This can happen when: 1. the client isn't running. Check in Task Manager if boinc.exe is actually running. 2. something else is taking up the port that BOINC uses to communicate between its parts (TCP 31416) 3. you didn't allow said port or BOINC's program parts through the Windows (or third party) firewall. It's of course also possible it's something completely new, Windows 10 specific (but then I would expect a lot of people complaining about it), or specific about your system (more likely). You do know that when you exit the command line, that BOINC closes, unless you use
boinc.exe --detach_console
? That added command starts the client and closes the command line window while leaving the program running. |

thank you for the reply. 1) no, boinc is not running in task manager. 2) if you are talking PID then no nothing is using that port 2) ran netstat -an nothjing came up using that port either 3) I added boinc.exe as exclusion in Malwarebytes I forgot to add, windows did an update Tuesday, and it has not run since. it still does not work. |

Did you start Boinc installer 'run as administrator' ? If you will try a reinstall I would do it this way: 1. uninstall Boinc 2. use a free registry cleaner to 'clean registry' (download a free version from something like Eusing Free Registry Cleaner or CCleaner). 3. reboot computer 4. disable Malwarebytes 5. run Boinc installer as administrator 6. use something to disable Boinc starting while Windows bootup (for example any of the previously mentioned registry cleaners) 7. reboot computer 8. disable Malwarebytes 9. try to start Boinc If Boinc will start then you could try: 10. exit Boinc completely and enable Malwarebytes and start Boinc again |

I appreciate the input but I already did uninstall, ran CCleaner, defraged drive, reinstalled as admin, gave permission for Boinc, same thing happened. prolly some weird thing with windows update and my system setup. |
