Hello, two weeks ago (that was nearly october 1st, 2018) , accidentally, i deleted the windows account (on windows 10) related to Boinc ('cause i installed as a service). After that i turns impossible to me to uninstall boinc manager, or to reinstall boinc. Does anyone have a solution? ps: i'm an as***le, i know |

To re-install have you tried the repair option when the screen from the install program shows the different options? Another option that I have used to un-install programs (in the distant past given that my own computers have been windows free this century) is to manually delete the program and data folders associated with them then to remove all registry entries referring to them. ***Only use this option if you are confident with registry editing and can make a backup of the registry first*** |

See https://boinc.mundayweb.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_do_I_completely_uninstall_BOINC_6_and_7,_on_Windows_/_Uninstall_to_prepare_for_reinstall%3F for how to do this manually. If a repair installation really doesn't work. |

i tried that back on october. But still can't unistall or re-install. From the Control Panel i went to Unisntall Programs, but it demands me some sort of file called: Boinc.msi on a determined folder (i have 3 folders with similar name, 2 of them with one Boinc.msi file. But those are not the required ones) Take a look: https://ibb.co/4gkTPHs |

If by chance you get an error message that the MSI file cannot be found, or that the network resource is unavailable, see this FAQ for options around that. According to the FAQ quoted, the msi file needed is: C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{DF85BFC4-9509-4AA9-824A-5C6057FA8459}\BOINC.msi In my case, what i need is the msi file: C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{7C24FB8A-76E1-44EA-864E-95237AAA6EED}\BOINC.msi i tried downloading the version installed before the issue, but still the same. It ask me for a .msi file that i don't have. |

The "{DF85BFC4-9509-4AA9-824A-5C6057FA8459}" number is a random number generated by the installer upon installation of BOINC. You will never ever get it again once used. So don't stare yourself blind on that. The FAQ I pointed to has manual steps to remove all the groups, files and registry information about BOINC. Follow that. |

What Windows is really saying is that it's looked through all of the drives and folders in the directory list of that computer, and can't find the msi file. And it never will, because you've deleted it. It's gone deleted dead never going to be seen again Forget about it. The instructions that you've been given are about how to create a new file, AND all of the actually important stuff. And if they don't work, then you're probably going to have to edit the Windows registry to get rid of anything BOINC. |

The Windows installer is trying to find the instructions for UNinstalling the previous installation. They are included in the boinc.msi file used to INSTALL that previous version. Windows should keep that version of the file lying around for reference, but if it's gone missing - install the exact same version as you installed before, and then uninstall it again. You (as administrator) are installing it, and you (as the same administrator) are uninstalling it: the missing boinc account shouldn't make any difference. |

Even if you didn't keep the original downloaded installer executable, you can download it again - look at any project you attached the laptop to, if you can't remember which version you had installed. Your account/host list will still display that information. All released version are kept in https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/, not least for this purpose. |
