Windows 10 Home boinc_7.14.2_windows_x86_64_vbox (installed as service) Hi, I just did a fresh install of BOINC (used it in the past in this computer, but uninstalled it a while ago). When I select BOINC Manager from the Start Menu, I get the wait circle next to the cursor and then nothing happens, the manager doesn't start. If I double click the file "boinc.exe" in "C:\Program Files\BOINC" I see sort of command line small window with black background where it says "cc_config.xml not found - using defaults", then after a few seconds the window closes and nothing happens. Where do I start trying to see what is wrong? Edit: tried installing just the base version without virtual box, the 32 bits version and without "service" checked, but still nothing happens when I try to start BOINC... |

Best completely uninstall it and take out any stragglers left behind, such as (old) data directory and registry entries, before reinstalling it. For a guide as to what to remove, see this FAQ. |

Deleted everything including regedit entries... Same behavior, can't run BOINC. What should I try next? |

This one almost makes me cry a bit, for only just happening. I do not use a screensaver anymore, because of running a couple of tasks in BOINC. Therefore deselecting this choice, when installing BOINC Manager on a new partition. But it could still be a feature in Windows itself, except not knowing where it ended up right now. So here choosing Simple view for the Manager, rather than Advanced, and when single clicking the Control Box at upper left, using both left and right mouse button, the application terminates, and so does the icon in the tray at the bottom right. Not a good thing really, if you happen to be in the middle of it, particularly for the heavier tasks which could be using the graphics card, because when only doing so, it could more easily end up in error, for just running out of sync. Needs a fix here, for here of the slightly better, and also still 7.14.2 for that of current version. |

This is the new normal for BOINC 7.16.3 Linux clients. Don't use the normal red X close now. Use the File menu choice. |

Both of you are talking about BOINC Manager. But what about the other half of BOINC, the client - is that running in the background? edit Oops. Sorry Keith, I've been writing while you posted. |

Deleted everything including regedit entries... Same behavior, can't run BOINC. What should I try next? Can you check in stdoutdae.txt, which can be found in the data directory (default a hidden directory at C:\Programdata\BOINC\) what it says there, and otherwise copy everything and post that here? If you've tried running BOINC more than once, do scroll down in that file to the last time you see "starting BOINC client version 7.14.2 for windows_x86_64" and copy that line and everything beyond it to a post here. Also, is there anything in stderrdae.txt? |

Do sudo task manager (lxtask, qps, or whatever your task manager is),or in terminal do sudo htop. Then kill (term) one of the boincmgr entries. It should kill them all. Then you can restart the manager. |

Boinc version 7.14.2 Recommended version 64 bit didn't work for me from download. It wouldn't connect to localhost and unless run as administrator didn't display the various projects under 'add project' Then when you tried to connect to a project it just kept saying 'Project Temporary Unavailable' This was under Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Ver 1903 OS Build 18362.356 Uninstalled the 64 bit BOINC ver Installed Boinc 7.14.2 32 bit version and that works fine. Are there know issues with the 7.14.2 64 bit version ? |

HELP MЕ PLEASE!! BOINC worked well on my smartphone before I connected a Windows computer to my account. After that, he stopped taking assignments, specifically assignments from the Rosetta @ home project. I took the application on the smartphone, stopped, updated, nothing helps. |

Don't know about under Windows but I have had problems with several versions of 64bit Windows BOINC running under WINE on Linux but 32 bit has worked fine. |

Boinc version 7.14.2 Recommended version 64 bit didn't work for me from download. It wouldn't connect to localhost and unless run as administrator didn't display the various projects under 'add project'The thing with Windows is, when you install a 64bit program to the 32bit Program Files directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\) Windows may refuse to run it because it's a security risk. This can happen when you first had a 32bit version installed, then tried to install a 64bit version. The BOINC installer will look where the previous version was installed and install to that directory. The BOINC installer is dumb, it doesn't know what the contents of its package are. So here a little user interactivity is needed to point it to the correct directory (C:\Program Files\). Mind that Windows doesn't mind running 32bit programs from the 64bit programs directory, just not the other way around. And it will exhibit exactly the problems you had of not connecting, when it's installed that way. |

Don't know about under Windows but I have had problems with several versions of 64bit Windows BOINC running under WINE on Linux but 32 bit has worked fine. I had Boinc 64 bit issues on my laptop, but it ran fine on my Xeon server. Both run a 64bit home user version of Windows 10. |
