Task run lengths are down to the project. BOINC normally manages to arrange things so that all tasks will be completed within their deadlines. But to help this set your cache limits to quite small figures, say 2 days, plus an extra 0.1. One thing to note is that when you first start out the estimated run-times can be very wrong, so it might take a few days to settle down. |

One thing to note is that when you first start out the estimated run-times can be very wrong, so it might take a few days to settle down. And if running BOINC under WINE to get Windows tasks under Linux, be aware that something makes the Gflops value reported to BOINC wrong so tasks typically in my experience run between three and five times faster than predicted. Also if you have a project that runs a multitude of different task types it can sometimes take a very long time for things to settle down and show an accurate estimate. Mostly I ignore what BOINC says and work it out for myself once tasks have been running an hour or two. |
