Upon review of the available BOINC versions located on the download page at the link below: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php I am interested currently in Linux (Ubuntu) versions; specifically, 7.14 and higher. I see the recommended Linux (Ubuntu) version is 7.4.22; however, the version currently installed on my Linux (Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS) device is 7.6.31. I would like to have version 7.14 or higher so I can process ScienceUnited WUs; is this possible? Thank you. |

Take a look at this post - there is now a much newer version for Linux, but it's essentially still in test. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=13562&postid=97382 It may not support Science United, but it should allow you to select which specific projects you want to run. |

Upon review of the available BOINC versions located on the download page at the link below:Version 7.16.5 is listed on the download_all page as a beta test for 64-bit Linux. This is the self-extracting archive version mentioned in the post that Rob links. David hasn't made an sea version for a while, so that's why it's marked as a beta. The Linux builds are distributed through repositories nowadays: your repo should get it soon, or you could attach https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/ubuntu/costamagnagianfranco-ppa and download/install via your package manager from there - Gianfranco's PPA is automatically updated as soon as new versions are seen (and reverted if they turn out to be buggy). |

Thank you robsmith; I am looking over the reference you provided and posted a question regarding how to install onto Linux (Ubuntu). Don |

Thank you Richard; it took some sifting but I eventually discovered the correct location for BOINC: https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/ubuntu/boinc I will give it a shot! Don |

Excellent. Be aware that v7.17.0 (and any other version you may be offered in updates) is a development version, and half-baked changes in future may be problematic - I hit a very nasty bug in v7.16.1 (now fixed). At the moment, the development line is very close to the newly-released v7.16.5, and all should be good - and it's got you started, which is the main thing. But it might be wise to avoid further updates unless you see a good reason for them, and try eventually to get on to an even-numbered release version, if it ever appears in your distro's repository. |

So I'm running 7.17 on two laptops with Ubuntu 18.04. What if I want to "downgrade" to 7.16.5? I downloaded the .sh file, and I'm not sure what to do. I also looked under Ubuntu software, and it says: Version: 7.16.5+dfsg+202002271434~ubuntu18.04.1 Updated: 3/19/2020 Source: lp_ppa_costamagnagianfranco_boinc-bionic-main That seems a bit contradictory to me. Anyway, I'd like to use the 'official' release for Linux to give it a test drive. Sorry, this is probably a simple question, but I only use Ubuntu to run Boinc on these few computers, and it is few and far between when I sit down and Ubuntu, so I really don't know how to navigate the OS at all. |
