I recently upgraded to a Pixel 3a. It has 6 little cores and 2 big cores, and it's pretty much affirmed that all 6 cores are running 6 boinc WUs, without doubling up on WUs per core.. Despite CPUz (or other CPU programs) seeing all 6 cores ramp up in speed regardless if there's 1 or 6 WUs being processed. It was all working fine, but I remember people complaining about bad battery life on the Pixel 3a until they updated their system. After a system update, battery life is indeed much better, but it also suspends Boinc. Even after going into apps, and selecting 'not optimized' under battery utilization, it still stalls in the background. It even says "while active in background, active for 0 minutes". |

It appears to be part of Google's effort to extend the battery life of the pixel 3a, which by default came with a pretty small battery. Fitbit users complained, because their devices wouldn't record their progress on the pixel phones. I went with a slightly more expensive, but hugely better Samsung a71. Not only a faster cpu, but also lower nm (8nm vs 10nm on the pixel 3a). Plus, the phone doesn't get above 35c crunching data on 6 cores. Been happy since. |

Unfortunately, this issue common for other models and other brands too. So BOINc still need smth to prevent suspending. Either programmatically or as instructions to users how to change phone settings. |
