Trying to join MLC@Home and Climate Prediction.net I always get following error message: Can't create account Invalid email address: please enter a valid address of the form name@xxx.yyy Why is that, I do use that same e-mail address for GPUGRID and Rosetta@home. Best regards. Guy Boinc manager 7.16.7 (x64) WINDOWS 10 |

For climateprediction, I think that you can only join via the Boinc Manager, menu > Tools > Add project. |

OK, you're on the right track. I'll email the project and see what's happened. |

Don't have a spare computer not connected to CPDN but was able to join MLC@home without problems. |

Do you use a proxy or VPN, or are you behind a (company) firewall? |

@ Jord.... Yes, using Proton VPN and Norton Security and probably Windows Firewall. I will check if it works without ProtonVPN. Nice, with Proton VPN disconnected, I have now added MLC@Home. Thanks. Climate prediction keeps saying that "Account creation is disabled". Thanks again and Best Regards |

@Les Bayliss Thanks. Climateprediction.net.... I wonder, not using my VPN I still get that message that they have disabled account creation. So, will be glad to hear their reaction. P.S. MLC@home... solved after switching of my VPN. Best Regards. |

@Les Bayliss Just checked by using Windows version under WINE. Detaching from project then trying with a different email gets the same result. I have emailed project to confirm it isn't just you. Edit: Using my normal email for the project and connecting as existing user works fine. I haven't tried signing up as user via browser which if it works would then allow you to add the project as an existing user if it works. Edit2: You need to sign up via link on website This is to ensure compliance with GDPR or at least UK governments interpretation of it. By the way, there isn't currently any work apart from the odd re-send of failed tasks though that might change at least for Linux users as there is some work in testing at the moment. |

It seems that things have changed yet again. Now you CAN'T use the BOINC manager to create an account. Go to the project's front page, here, and look in the right hand column. Click on Create a new account, read through all the stuff about the Terms of Use, and sign up at the bottom. |

MESSAGE FROM THE SERVER:Surely we should have better wording than that to cover the 'Must join via website' situation? I thought I'd seen better - GDPR has been around for a couple of years now - so I'm not sure if it's CPDN or BOINC that's responsible for the choice of words. I'll check the BOINC sources this afternoon. |

Thanks Richard. Edit: I should have remembered that creating account from BOINC had been disabled. Trouble is I don't get reminders as I am always going to sign up a new computer with the option of already having an account. |

It's very messy - I'm not surprised the OP was confused. What he saw was ![]() which is a pretty firm turn-off. If you go to the CPDN link from the Projects Page of the BOINC website, you end up at https://www.cpdn.org/. If you're not signed-in already, that says: Join climateprediction.netOther links on the main CPDN site, like https://www.climateprediction.net/getting-started/, similarly guide you down the 'Attach to project' route - having told you to launch the Client, it shows you a screenshot of the Manager wizard. Tch, tch - sloppy. Einstein does it better: ![]() Even if CPDN hasn't got much work at the moment (why not?) they really ought to pay more attention to the details and their website. I'll summarise the above to their email list. |
