Under Windows it's an option on one of the early (3rd??) installation steps - tick the box for "service installation" and you are done. One thing to be aware of is that BOINC will not allow any application to use a GPU if you have one installed - this is due to a limitation of the drivers that Windows uses for service installations. Sometime located elsewhere in the (un)known Universe But most often found somewhere near the middle of the UK |

Please tell us your operating system (Apple, Linux, Windows, other) - even that much makes a big difference. |

I'm running windows 10, I have ticked the "install as service" box during install.. However when I restart the computer it asks User Account Control "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device" Boinc Client Software Then BOINC Manager - Daemon Start Failed Boinc Manager is not able to start Boinc client Please launch the Control Panel, Administrative Tools , Service app...... Looking in Services there is a BOINC service set to Automatic but not running. Log on as: .\boinc_master |

Did you install BOINC as an administrator? |

Yes, I am an administrator on the network. |

...on the network? Are you trying to install BOINC via the network? Because I don't think you can do it that way, not as a service installation at least, that requires a local administrator account. |

I never said I was trying to install via the network.. I am an Administrator on the domain. |

Which network machine are you trying to install on? The Domain Controller is likely to be problematic, even though the absolute prohibition has been lifted. If a domain member, it would be as well to ensure that your Domain account is also registered as having local admin rights on that machine. |

Not a server, I have several regular domain desktops that sit idle 90% of the time. |

I never said I was trying to install via the network.. I am an Administrator on the domain. No, but then you don't say how you are installing it either. So, do tell. Are you installing BOINC on the physical machine? Is that machine an AD or DC? We can do twenty questions, guess etc. but why not just cut everyone off and tell what you are doing, how you are doing it and what you expect. Else see here for hints. |

This is probably a silly thought, but..... The other day I got caught doing an installation that required to be done as administrator. Like you I am an administrator on the system, but the installation failed repeatedly. Eventually I noticed that there was a "run as administrator" option when I right clicked on the install program, using this option the installation worked. This was on Windows 7 Pro, so may not be applicable to Windows 10.... |

Not a server, I have several regular domain desktops that sit idle 90% of the time. You can repeat yourself ad nauseam and not answer anything, I don't care. Do know that the BOINC service installation requires that you can make local accounts on the computer you install to. That it will not work with domain logins. That BOINC will need to be able to make its own limited user accounts, locally, and crucially, use them. That BOINC will probably not work at all when the domain user is logged in - because using domain controller login. |
