I am a new user. I have use a dial-up modem, and I run Windows XP. BOINC seems to work fine as long as I am connected to my ISP. When I am not connected, transfers don't work, although I have I have set the preferences to NOT require confirmation before dialing, and I have listed my ISP as the default connection. I get messages like those below, over and over. When I manually connect to my ISP, all the transfers get done immediately. 9/24/2007 5:21:10 AM|ABC@home|[file_xfer] Started upload of file abc_wu_1197663910000_350000_1_0 9/24/2007 5:21:12 AM|ABC@home|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed upload of abc_wu_1197289410000_350000_0_0: can't resolve hostname 9/24/2007 5:21:12 AM|ABC@home|Backing off 1 min 0 sec on upload of file abc_wu_1197289410000_350000_0_0 9/24/2007 5:21:12 AM|ABC@home|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed upload of abc_wu_1197663910000_350000_1_0: can't resolve hostname 9/24/2007 5:21:12 AM|ABC@home|Backing off 1 min 0 sec on upload of file abc_wu_1197663910000_350000_1_0 9/24/2007 5:21:58 AM|ABC@home|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work 9/24/2007 5:21:58 AM|ABC@home|Requesting 29781 seconds of new work, and reporting 1 completed tasks 9/24/2007 5:22:04 AM|ABC@home|Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name 9/24/2007 5:22:04 AM|ABC@home|Deferring communication for 1 min 0 sec 9/24/2007 5:22:04 AM|ABC@home|Reason: scheduler request failed 9/24/2007 5:22:12 AM|ABC@home|[file_xfer] Started upload of file abc_wu_1197289410000_350000_0_0 9/24/2007 5:22:12 AM|ABC@home|[file_xfer] Started upload of file abc_wu_1197663910000_350000_1_0 9/24/2007 5:22:14 AM|ABC@home|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed upload of abc_wu_1197289410000_350000_0_0: can't resolve hostname What can I do to get BOINC to dial up? |

I have listed my ISP as the default connection When you say listed as default connection, do you mean in IE options or in BOINC options? To check the BOINC options, go to Advanced View then: Select from drop menues 'Advance' > 'Options' > 'Connection Tab' Make sure that your ISP is select as default here. |

Thanks, but I meant in BOINC options. Have you another suggestion? |

Thanks, but I meant in BOINC options. Have you another suggestion? Well, that's not very useful. The reason for the message is that he is disconnected from Internet, so it's quite obvious hostnames won't resolve. The problem is he set BOINC to automatically connect to Internet, and it's not doing so. |
