Hi there, I had to re-install my OS (Mandriva-linux 2008 powerpack). However, I backed up my BOINC folder previously and copied it back to my home directory after the update. However, I can't seem to get it work now. ./run_client command returns the following: 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.8.16 for i686-pc-linux-gnu 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.16.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8d zlib/1.2.3 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] Data directory: /home/hako/BOINC 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz [Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 3][fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx lm constant_tsc pni monitor ds_cpl est cid cx16 xtpr] 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] Memory: 1010.08 MB physical, 2.44 GB virtual 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] Disk: 14.42 GB total, 13.88 GB free 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [climateprediction.net] URL: http://climateprediction.net/; Computer ID: 808712; location: home; project prefs: default 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] General prefs: from climateprediction.net (last modified 2007-09-30 22:21:07) 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] Host location: home 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [---] General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [climateprediction.net] Deferring communication for 5 min 47 sec 2008-01-01 14:48:17 [climateprediction.net] Reason: scheduler request to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi failed: system fopen sudo lsof -cboinc -cBOINC does not return any output. I renamed lockfile the lockfile.old prior to doing all these. I really want to continue my project file and not re-install BOINC, which will mean that I will restart another project. I will appreciate any guidance to make this possible. |

Unless you COMPLETELY exited from BOINC before making the backup, the backup won't work. Also, unless you: A) Copied the backup to another hard disk, or B) Zipped the folder before copying it to a cd/dvd, the folders/files will be read only, and these will need to be made read-write. |

the folders/files will be read only, and these will need to be made read-write. You got it! The file failing to be opened is probably "sched_request_climateprediction.net.xml" because it's read only. |

...unless you: Making the files read-write solved my problem. Thanks a lot! |
