Hi I finished one task and the result was uploaded. 12/09/2008 12:29:35 PM|Spinhenge@home|Started upload of 7_Fe30_map_962_655_0_0 12/09/2008 12:29:46 PM|Spinhenge@home|Finished upload of 7_Fe30_map_962_655_0_0 And the status of the task shows "Ready to report", so when BOINC report the server the task was finished? And why BOINC separate this two steps, not report complete when upload result? Cheers |

so when BOINC report the server the task was finished? BOINC will report automatically in 24 hours, but if you can't wait that long, open BOINC Manager, Advanced view, Projects tab, select the project the task is from and press the Update button. That reports the tasks that are ready to report immediately. For BOINC 5.8 and above: Completed work is reported at the first of: 1) 24 hours after completion (was Connect every X after completion). 2) 24 hours before report is due. 3) Connect every X before report is due. 4) On a trickle up message (CPDN only so far). 5) On a request for more work. 6) On a manual update. And why BOINC separate this two steps, not report complete when upload result? Uploading is just that, BOINC uploads the result file to a disk on the server. Reporting uses the database. Reporting multiple tasks at once takes the same amount of overhead as reporting a single task does, so it's preferred to report as many tasks at the same time as possible, to minimize the impact on the database. |

so when BOINC report the server the task was finished? Hi Ageless Thank you for your answer. I only run one task each project, why BOINC still need to wait? And what if because some reason, no Internet available after uploading result until deadline passed, no credit would be given? Cheers |

I only run one task each project, why BOINC still need to wait? You're not the only person on the project. You're not the only person using BOINC. It's in the software for all to use, while people can still choke the database if everyone with only one task try to report that one task at the same time. And what if because some reason, no Internet available after uploading result until deadline passed, no credit would be given? Any task that is over the deadline will be sent out again to another computer. If you manage to get your task reported before the new computer crunches, uploads and reports it, you'll still get credit. |
