I have a file server I run that also is used for boinc projects since most of the processing power is idle. My problem is recently after running for 30 minutes to an hour the system will just hang and become unresponsive. Originally I noticed a problem when the other computers on the same switch could not get any network connections and the file server indicator light was flashing. I throttled the net connection in the Boinc software since that was the only program using bandwith. I then noticed the hangs. After the system runs for a while it becomes unresponsive and needs to be rebooted. Right now I have boinc disabled and the server is running fine. I have the most recent Boinc release and the most recent updates for the OS. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, I'm somewhat of an efficiency freak and, even though running an 80% + PSU, I want the system to always have a purpose. Here are the specs for the server (Please note that the CPU will be replaced and an additional 2GB of RAM will be added.) OS : Windows Server 2003 Enterprise CPU : AMD Athlon X2 4000+ (OC'd 2.1GHZ - 2.63GHZ) RAM : 1GB DDR2-800 HDD : 80GB (OS) HDD : RAID 0+1 4 x 150GB (300GB total space) Any help will be appreciated. |

Which BOINC version is this with? What temperatures does your server run at? (Is it a domain server?) |

... But the system has a continuous connection to the Internet? What happens if you only suspend network activity in BOINC manager? Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) ![]() |

I suspended all network activity under BOINC and allowed it to process the work units it has. I left it running all night and from what it looked like everything was working. Sadly this morning the system was unresponsive, the network indicator light was flashing rapidly, and none of my other systems had access to the network. |

The memory being defective is not the issue here, but I do believe that the lack of memory is causing the problems. Though why it is accessing my network resources like that is beyond me. If any of you have any other ideas let me know. Thanks. |
