Cleaning off my desktop I find a folder labeled Boinc that I must have downloaded in an idle moment. So I open it to see what it is. There is nothing in there to tell me. There’s a ReadMe with news on updates and changes, but NOTHING about what Boinc actually does. Since I am in the midst of another idle moment, I actually take the time to visit the website. So I gather it’s a mass computing app like the SETI At Home, app, but that I need to select one of many programs to run on it. Sounds like a lot of trouble. Is this really the way to recruit large numbers of volunteers? And I don’t care if it’s somehow my own fault; the question remains. Yours truly, John Mayer |

Yes, the way to recruit large numbers of volunteers is to have them accidentally download something that they don't know what it is. Thats exactly what the BOINC community has been planning all along. ![]() |
