Greetings Hi! My anti-virus kicked out a program - ctrestrt.exe. At this time, an install of the new (6.6.28) version of BOINC was running - and it popped up an error message that said: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate folder containing the installation package 'BOINC.msi' in the box below." I assumed the problems were connected. Is ctrestrt.exe part of the BOINC install? Can you tell me what it does? My ant-virus is 'Kaspersky Internet Security 2009' and it works well. Thanks, Jay PS ctrestrt.exe was installed in ... windows\system32. Thanks again. |

At this time, an install of the new (6.6.28) version of BOINC was running - and it popped up an error message that said: I don't think so. The only reference to that file that I can find is in combination with spyware. The solution to the network resource error is given in this FAQ. And so: Is ctrestrt.exe part of the BOINC install? No, not part of the BOINC installer or Windows installer. |

Jord, Thank you for such a quick response. I went back and uninstalled and re-installed version 6.6.20. (The uninstalled failed because it couldn't find a good msi file. You were right!!! The install of 6.6.20 over whatever was there went OK and I started the BOINC manager.) I made another cup of coffee and started reading other postings - and read the one about sending in a log of the install. I re-ran the install of 6.6.28 with the logging option - and it ran OK this time. (( Just goes to show that a problem won't repeat when you want it to. )) One difference was that I had left 6.6.20 running when I started the re-install. Usually, I suspend all tasks and exit when installing the Boinc Manager. I'll let the current WUs finish - and then I'll run a memory check and disk check. Thanks again for alll of the help!! Jay |
