hi, is there a version that doesn't need to be installed? I would like to use such a version, like a portable version, so I can use it anywhere I want, where admins normaly don't allow to install any software. :) greets, Andreas |

hi, that's clear, but it would still be nice to have a portbale version without a need to install. sometimes, I have to switch my laptops (work laptops) but I just want to have one instance running. so I wouldn't have to in-and deinstall versions back and forth. greets, Andreas |

Move your BOINC Data directory onto a USB stick. Uninstall BOINC from the one laptop, install BOINC on the next laptop. Move the BOINC Data directory back. That's about the only good work-around. Else don't run much work, then you can run your queue dry before installing BOINC on the next machine. By the way, uninstalling BOINC won't clean it out completely, remnants will always stay behind. Use this FAQ for the clean-up steps. Although you will need to be an administrator on the laptop to do so. |

that's clear, but it would still be nice to have a portbale version without a need to install. In a few projects, if halfway in the computation you move the data directory to a computer with different hardware (especially from Intel to AMD or viceversa) and resume processing from there, you will cause invalid results. |
