English Vista You are aware that this is impossible in most Vista version. (Home Premium) |

"Opmerking: Deze stappen kunnen niet worden uitgevoerd in Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic en Windows Vista Home Premium." You want me to do an expensive upgrade to use BOINC? |

Riiiiiiight, blame it on me! You said "On Vista how can I assign a user to the boinc_admins group", you didn't say "On Vista Home...". You did not specify which Vista you use. Perhaps a good thing to think of that for the next time. I am not psychic. On Vista Home you can't do this. You can't do it on XP Home either. So either you learn to live with it, or you get a Vista version that does allow you to add users to groups, or you just don't use Vista but XP Pro. |

Riiiiiiight, blame it on me! Ok if it where that simple.....and I thought, you are doing this for some time, you would be a bit psychic by now. But strange to do something that a lot of users can't handle. And upgrading only for BOINC, for features you normally never ever use in a home computer? There is an easy workaround but every time BOINC installs it removes that.... and you have to do it again. It would be much simpler if the installer would handle this. Maybe a hint. |

On Vista Home you can't do this. You can't do it on XP Home either. I did it once in XP home. All I remember is that I had to boot in safe mode ("Abgesicherter Modus"). Gruß, Gundolf |

Since Home misses the User Group Policy, you can't add it even in Safe Mode. Now, there is another way you may be able to add the users to the groups in XP Home. It may be that you have to use the same commands in Vista Home. Test it, I would say. - Click on the 'Start' button. - Click on 'Programs'. - Click on 'Desktop-Accessories'. - Click on 'Command Prompt'. - In the command prompt window that opened, type: -- net localgroup boinc_admins 'username' /add (press Enter), where 'username' (without the quotes) is the username you want to add. As far as I know, the username is not case sensitive. |

It would be much simpler if the installer would handle this. Maybe a hint. The installer handles this on 99% of the Windows versions out there. It just appears that on some systems it won't do it, for whatever reason. Rom has fixed this a couple of times already, but now he's just waiting to see how the new installer is going to handle this (which hopefully will also make it possible to install on a domain controller and domain client again). |

You may also have to add the username to the boinc_projects group. Else they won't be able to execute any applications under BOINC. But I am not too sure about that, again try before you do. ;-) |

English Vista Wow, thanks Ageless, I had this problem recently & didn't know how to get around it. Printed link page out for future reference. I'm okay as I use Vista Business & Ultimate. |
