Hi, I can get boinc to work on openesuse 11.1. the distribution comes with a slightly older version of the client (6.2.18 64bit) than what os found on the web nut it should not mean it is not funcional. Any way the issue is basically as follows, after installing the client and gui packages I run the client and and see in the console that it returns a message boinc, --redirectio, --launched_by_manager) failed with error 2 then I see the message connect:operation in progress connect:connection refused I run this server on the same lan as my pc (running windows xp) it has no issues connecting, OPensuse has the firewall diabled, so not sure what else it could be. Any ideas? |

If the client doesn't run (failed with error 2), the manager can't connect to it. So, the thread title should be "BOINC client fails to start" :-) Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) ![]() |

According to this thread, you have to start BOINC with the run_manager command instead. Tried that? Also, a disabled firewall isn't necessarily always disabled completely. It's better to allow software to pass through the firewall. |

Ok so the title is stricktly speaking incorrect. your coments while at least helped me to resolve the Boinc, --redirectio, --launched_by_manager) failed with error 2 but I still can't connect. :-( |

You can't connect to what? Can BOINC not connect to the internet? Can BOINC Manager not connect to the client? Both of those can be solved by enabling the firewall and then allowing BOINC through it. The Boinc and Boincmgr binaries need access to the localhost on port 31416. The Boinc binary needs separate access to the internet on TCP ports 80 and 443. |

I've no idea what it is trying to connect to, via a browser I can connect to ports 80 obviously and also ports 443, as for the port 31416 I can se that the boinc_client is listening on that port |

OK, so you installed using Yast? I just made a Suse LiveCD http://susestudio.com/ I'll give a whirl tomorrow once I get it burned. I can't do a full install yet. I've got a couple big WUs running on that machine. Kathryn :o) |

yes I used Yast, this is opensuse11.1 64 bit version! OK. That machine is 32 bit. Let me make a 64 bit CD to use on my desktop. I was out all day so I didn't get to check things out with the original one. Kathryn :o) |
