I recently started using Windows 7 and found out I could not run boinc as a service and use GPUs. Now I reinstalled without the service loaded and it only sees 1 of the to GPUs. I've tried version 6.6.38 and 6.10.15. Both devices show up in the device manager. 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Starting BOINC client version 6.10.15 for windows_intelx86 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Libraries: libcurl/7.19.4 OpenSSL/0.9.8k zlib/1.2.3 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Running under account xxxxxx 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+ [x86 Family 6 Model 10 Stepping 0] 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Processor: 512.00 KB cache 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Processor features: fpu tsc sse 3dnow mmx 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM OS: Microsoft Windows 7: x86 Edition, (06.01.7600.00) 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Memory: 1.99 GB physical, 3.98 GB virtual 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Disk: 37.15 GB total, 10.55 GB free 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Local time is UTC -4 hours 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce 8400 GS (driver version 19107, CUDA version 2030, compute capability 1.1, 512MB, 22 GFLOPS peak)10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Not using a proxy 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Version change (6.6.38 -> 6.10.15) 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM SETI@home URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 5140983; resource share 100 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM SETI@home General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 23-Jun-2009 21:19:05) 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM SETI@home Host location: none 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM SETI@home General prefs: using your defaults 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1019.71MB 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 1835.48MB 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Preferences limit disk usage to 10.00GB 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Running CPU benchmarks 10/21/2009 8:12:42 AM Suspending computation - running CPU benchmarks 10/21/2009 8:13:13 AM Benchmark results: 10/21/2009 8:13:13 AM Number of CPUs: 1 10/21/2009 8:13:13 AM 1999 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 10/21/2009 8:13:13 AM 3280 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU |

Make or adapt a cc_config.xml file in your BOINC Data directory. Add into it these lines: <cc_config> <options> <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> </options> </cc_config> Save the file, make sure it has the .xml extentsion, not something else. Then exit and restart BOINC for changes to take effect. BOINC will by default only show the best of the GPUs as being available and use it. |

Still just the one GPU. Anything else I should check. 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Starting BOINC client version 6.10.15 for windows_intelx86 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Config: use all coprocessors 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Libraries: libcurl/7.19.4 OpenSSL/0.9.8k zlib/1.2.3 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Running under account xxxxx 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+ [x86 Family 6 Model 10 Stepping 0] 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Processor: 512.00 KB cache 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Processor features: fpu tsc sse 3dnow mmx 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM OS: Microsoft Windows 7: x86 Edition, (06.01.7600.00) 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Memory: 1.99 GB physical, 3.98 GB virtual 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Disk: 37.15 GB total, 10.54 GB free 10/21/2009 3:00:04 PM Local time is UTC -4 hours 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce 8400 GS (driver version 19107, CUDA version 2030, compute capability 1.1, 512MB, 22 GFLOPS peak) 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM Not using a proxy 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM SETI@home URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 5140983; resource share 100 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM SETI@home General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 23-Jun-2009 21:19:05) 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM SETI@home Host location: none 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM SETI@home General prefs: using your defaults 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1019.71MB 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 1835.48MB 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM Preferences limit disk usage to 10.00GB 10/21/2009 3:00:05 PM Suspending computation - user is active |

Ok, so which GPU are you missing, what sort is it? |

I have an onboard video card which is disabled that I'm not worried about. Then I have 2 identical GeForce 8400 GS's. I only have one monitor hooked up but I've tested the monitor on both cards. |

You should try two monitors or a dummy plug. Does "extending the desktop" mean anything to you? (It doesn't to me :-) Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) ![]() |

As per my FAQ on that (see signature for the CUDA FAQ): "Some people report that in order to have both video cards recognized and be able to use them, you can try to extend your desktop over all your videocards; if that doesn't work you need to have a monitor attached to each video card, or add a VGA dummy to the VGA outlet of the other video card(s)." |

That did it. I had to plug a monitor in to the empty video card and make sure my destop was extended then restart boinc. Thanks again. |
