I intend to buy a replacement for my X2 4050e but don't want to spend too much money. As it has to crunch malaria.net 24/7 and I'm not doing anything strange/particular with it I'm thinking of a Phenom II X4 810 and downwards like a Athlon II X4 620/630. No I need to know if the L3 cache is of any importance for crunching in order to make a choice between for instance a Phenom II X3 720, a X4 810 or a Athlon II X4 620/630. Anyone any experience with it ? |

I intend to buy a replacement for my X2 4050e but don't want to spend too much money. Depends on the Application, Setiathome's Astropulse app is particularly slow on AMD chips compared to Intel C2D chips, probably all to do with the size of the L2 Cache difference between them, i don't know about malaria.net, try comparing run times in the top hosts. I'd point you to a list of computers on Seti Beta, but the Main and Beta projects are down at the moment. Claggy |

"try comparing run times in the top hosts" is no good cause these results are much too diverse. Just need another cpu for running, besides malaria.net, WCG and F@H again. I've read the L2 cache of the amd's is sufficient so I just need advice on L3. |
