Running BOIC on an old computer (Intel P4, 1.8 gigHz CPU, 1 gig of DDR RAM (max motherboard allows) Windows XP Home Edition). BOIC is 6.10.18, Widgets 2.8.10 I use the computer solely for a single BOIC-using project, nothing else. I have an old nVidia video card that I can throw in if BOINC will use it, an fx5200 with 128 meg cache. Otherwise I'll use it in some other doorstop to stave off recycling. I understand that BOIC will test for usable GPUs and can do things faster on them. Is the nVidia fx5200 such a card? Thanks |

It's not up to BOINC whether a GPU can be used for CUDA or not, but up to the GPU in question. Nvidia has a list of CUDA ready GPUs, at http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_gpus.html. Your FX5200 is not on the list, so it cannot be used for projects that use CUDA applications. |

you need a Nvidia 8*** card or later Oooh, I'd watch out with saying that you need an 8xxx number GPU. Perhaps so for the Geforce, but not the Quadro FXes, which start and end at a lower than 8xxx number. |

you need a Nvidia 8*** card or later Point taken, it should have said Geforce 8xxx and later, or Quadro FX, or Tesla. Claggy |
