I am currently running one session of BOINC on a spare PC in my office. I have a couple of quite powerful servers (RHEL5) which could also be used 24 hours a day. My query is whether one needs to log into an account for the BOINC software to start or does it just run in the background when the machine is started and before logging in? Relative to the answer I shall install to the two servers.
Regards to all
David

You'll have to run BOINC as a daemon.
See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Stop_or_start_BOINC_daemon_after_boot for the general advice (it will probably use different commands on your version).
