On my system it has different users. I note that BOINC will only run when each user sets up the projects. But I will configure in a way that the administrator can configure the projects and the calculations are carried out to all users. They don't need to manage it. Can someone tell me whether to do this and how to do that? My system is Vista. BOINC V6.10.18 Thank you in advance. |

Install BOINC as a service (protected application execution). You will need to uninstall BOINC & reinstall it to use that option in the installer. Or upgrade to 6.10.56. See this FAQ for help on that. |

Sorry for the late reply, I saw the answer a few days ago. I did as you said but still, I have to administrate the project for each user and this is not what I want. I get the error message "connection to the base client not possible" (translated). I want to administrate it once and BOINC should compute the same project, independent of the user. I have 5 users on this computer and it makes no sense to administrate a project for each user. Some of the projects would run in timeout because there is not enough activitiy on that account. This situation I already had in my old version. Is there no way to let BOINC run on the same project for every user? |

During installation, DON'T click "Allow all users to control BOINC". This way, only YOU will get to select a project. All others will only be able to RUN it. |

BOINC consists of a client (boinc.exe) and a manager (boincmgr.exe). The Manager part (the graphical interface) doesn't need to run at all times for the client to continue to run. By installing as a service, the client part will run no matter what user logs in. It will even run when no-one is logged in, but the computer is still on. The error you get, "BOINC Manager couldn't connect to a client" is merely show when the user in question doesn't have permission to use the manager. You can set that in the installer as well. The error doesn't mean that the client isn't running for that user. If you do not want the users to control the client, it's even better that they get this error. Else they can detach from projects at their own choice, rendering the client useless as it won't do any science anymore. |
