I have my manager set to suspend everything when I am active but my GPU continues to run tasks. Boinc has the status as suspended but the elapsed time and the percentage done continue to run. Also I can see that the temp on my GPU stays high, indicating it's doing work. My GPU is NVIDIA GeForce 9800m GS and Boinc is 6.10.58. Thanks for the help. |

In the manager menu: Advanced -> Preferences -> processor usage, is the option Use GPU while computer is in use ticked? |

No, and even if I select 'never use the GPU' on that menu it will continue to run. I should also add that the problem is intermittent. |

Sorry, I thought you meant the activity menu, but the option you described is also unchecked. |

Thanks for the help. I've only ever seen it with SETI, although not all SETI apps run continuously. Some do, some don't. As for checking the CUDA app version, how would I do that? Ryan |

Apparently this is a SETI issue, and not a BOINC issue. They have had this problem in the past. Hopefully they can fix it or I may have to suspend SETI until they do. If anyone has news, let me know, thanks. |

So I spoke too soon. I no longer have SETI tasks yet my gpu still constantly runs. The only difference is where before the SETI tasks ignored the suspend when active preference (they would say suspended but the timers and progress bar would continue to move), now their is no indication looking at BOINC that the GPU is still running (all projects say suspended, user active and the time counters (elapsed, remaining) and the progress bar is static. However, looking at a temperture reading of the GPU, it is still processing. If I exit out of BOINC it stops. I can then restart BOINC and it works fine until next time I try to use the computer. Suggestions or help? |

Can you test with BOINC 6.11.7 from the download all page, to see if you can reproduce this? The developers so far cannot. |

Jord, thanks for the response. I uninstalled the 6.10 version and downloaded the 6.11 version (64 bit). A poster on another forum also told me to ensure that I had Boinctray.exe running. When I checked, it was not running, so I opened it. The system now responds, shutting down the gpu as it is supposed to. Since I did both things I'm not sure which was the fix but I appreciate the help. |

Actually, looking at the other forum I realized it was you. So double thanks. |

That's the easy thing about using the same nickname and avatar on all those forums. ;-) |

So it's back, (or it never truly went away). I thought it went away because I was seeing cooler temps but I tried to use my laptop on battery the other day and it was sucking down power while Boinc was 'suspended'. I closed Boinc and the power drain stopped. So when Boinc suspends it drops some load off the GPU but is still running it to some extent. I checked for the tray manager and it was present. Any other ideas? Thanks for the help. |

I noticed that when the problem is occurring, the tasks are taking up significant memory as viewed from my task manager. Does this help? |
