ver 6.10.58, running on and HP ENVY laptop...

Since I installed BOINC I can't tell Windows 7 to set my screen saver to "NONE".

The only way to prevent the screen saver from activating is to set the timer to 9999. If I set the timer to 1 minute, and then set the screen saver to "NONE" it still loads what seems to be the "Blank" screen saver.

This behavior started with the install and running of BOINC.

I've even checked through the Advanced section that Windows 7 provides for tweaking management of sleep times, screen saver times, those are all set to 0 or NONE and yet the screen saver still activates after the set time I've chosen.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am having similar issues and all bonic activity stops when screen saver activates. I can tell this because I have a CPU and RAM meter up on the LCD screen on my keyboard. Once I hit "any" key or move mouse it picks up again.

That sounds like an "energy saving" mode. If enabled, it's activated even when no screen saver is selected.

I have checked all power options and everything I can... No sleep, no hibernation, no screen savers, no power save settings. I have a High Performance Profile custom made with everything OFF for on battery and on AC, and every other power save trick I can find is set to off or never or is disabled but I still can't make the screen saver stop activating. I am sure after 9999 minutes my screen saver would activate even when having chosen NONE!

Sorry, then we'll have to wait for someone else to come up with another idea. ;-)

My Advanced Power Settings are as follows:

Sleep=
Sleep After:
On Battery = NEVER
Plugged In = NEVER

Allow Hybrid Sleep:
On Battery = OFF
Plugged In = OFF

Hibernate After:
On Battery = NEVER
Plugged In = NEVER

Allow Wake Timers:
On Battery = Disable
Plugged In = Disable

Display=
Dim display after:
On Battery = 0 minutes (no NEVER for this one)
Plugged In = 0 Minutes

Turn Off Display After:
On Battery = Never
Plugged In = Never

And I still get screen saver activation no matter what I do.

I don't believe the BIOS is the issue. If I set the Windows 7 screen saver to 10 minutes, and then select NONE it turns on in 10 minutes.

If I set the Windows 7 timer to 1 minute (and NONE) it goes on in one minute. 20 minutes, same thing.

I set the timer by selecting a screen saver, then set the timer, and then set the screen saver to NONE.

I will have to check but I believe that Windows will start which ever screen saver I have selected last... i.e. if BOINC saver was last then BOINC will start, Blank as last will blank the screen, and 3D text will activate 3D text, all while set to NONE.

I have never accessed the BIOS on this laptop. So unless BOINC can alter the BIOS (which if it CAN I will immediately abandon participation) then I don't believe the BIOS could be the issue.

I've been at work all day today messing around with this trying to figure it out (dont tell my boss!) and I think I fixed it... I still don't know what caused it other than the timely relationship to installing and running BOINC but here is what I did to fix it:

(">" = Next, or Next Select)

Right Click Desktop and select Personalize (Windows 7) >
Screen Saver >
Change Power Settings >
Next to the "Plan" you are using select Change Plan Settings >
Change Advanced Power Settings >

Hit the + next to Sleep, change ALL settings to something other than NONE, 0, or OFF, and do the same with anything and everything you can find dealing with the Display. Hit Apply.

Now, reset it all back to OFF, NONE, or 0...

And hopefully you're done!

I don't know what happened... And I don't know why the fix worked. I can theorize that something got stuck in the registry somehow, set to my previously selected screen saver, and by altering and resetting the saved settings I forced the registry to update its bug and eliminated it.

And I apologize for making this post as simple as possible... I am hoping if anyone else runs into this problem that this post may help them so I wanted my method of fixing to be as clear and easy to recreate as possible.
