I'm running the latest BOINC software (6.10.58) on two different computers. One computer will only process one work unit at a time, no matter which projects I have attached. The other will run up to 8 at one time. Can someone help me to get the one work unit up to at least 5? Thanks in advance for the help! DJ Sparkles |

I'm running the latest BOINC software (6.10.58) on two different computers. The generic answer is that a computer will usually run 1 WU(Work Unit) per CPU core (real or Hyperthread). Some projects can make use of the graphic cards (GPU) to run additional WU(s). At least one project has multithreaded WU that make use of multiple CPU per WU when available. This question is best asked on the project(s) that you are attached to so that the helper can look at your account to see what kind of computer you are using and what resource they have. We can't do this on the Boinc forum since Boinc itself doesn't have a project and can't link to your project account. Boinc V 7.4.36 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB NVidia 470 |

Your computer that only processes one task at a time may only have one core. If you look at my computers in my climateprediction account you'll see that one computer has just one core (the page says processors), another has two and the best computer has four. So the most tasks I can process at any time is 7. If you post a link to your account on any of the projects (not your account on this forum), one of us should be able to tell you whether your computer that runs just one task would be capable of processing more. Or people will tell you on the forum of one of your projects. |
