I'm currently running version 6.10.58 on a Centos 5.7 machine. It has been running without any issues for quite some time (December 2010).

So I attempted an upgrade to 6.12.34 and the new Boinc client is not at all happy about the library environment. Here is my ldd output:

[root@pc5 6.12.34]# ldd boinc
./boinc: /lib/i686/nosegneg/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.7' not found (required by ./boinc)
./boinc: /lib/i686/nosegneg/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by ./boinc)
linux-gate.so.1 => (0x00266000)
libcurl.so.4 => not found
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x00b3e000)
libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0x0090c000)
libresolv.so.2 => /lib/libresolv.so.2 (0x008f6000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/i686/nosegneg/libpthread.so.0 (0x00b70000)
libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0x00133000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/i686/nosegneg/libm.so.6 (0x00b45000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x00dec000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/i686/nosegneg/libc.so.6 (0x009e0000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x009c1000)

There is nothing in the release notes about the library changes so I thought it a good idea to post this error. Also libcurl.so.3 is the standard on these systems. I didn't bother to check the boincmgr or boinccmd executables where the main one is already broke.

So it looks like the 6.10.58 version for Linux may be needed for quite some time if this can't be cleared up.

Thanks, Tim

And yet another option is to compile boinc yourself, not saying that this is an easy option, but it can be done. One of the main hurdles to supporting multiple distros is not just the time, but the problem of not having access to a build machine running that distro.
