Hi, I have a quad-core CPU i5-2500K, would that make good use BOINC only 2 cores when I use the PC, but when I not use the PC that BOINC used all 4 cores. is it possible? Sorry for bad English |

No, that isn't possible yet, it is planned for a future version of BOINC, but don't ask which one. |

This can have really nasty side effects depending on the cache settings. Suppose you run a project who's shortest deadline is 8 days and you cache 4 days on the quad. Then with the proposed scheme of switching down to 2 cores when using computer [for instance according the <exclusive_app> config settings], there's instant panic mode kicking in. Doubtlessly some other bell feature will be thought up to counter that. Till then, the user is in charge, use such features with care and consideration. --//-- edit: and for fun, my 7.07 test install, not even switching cores down, when caching more than 4.5 days on a project that has a 10 days deadline, panic mode kicks in within a breath soon as total TTC remaining adds up to above 4.75 days [total TTC always shrinks and expands as actual times of completed jobs vary]. Caching is ineffective btw unless the Connect Every days is set. Additional Buffers does nothing at all it seems. |
