Hey guys, I just had a quick question. I understand the point of Boinc is to use CPU Power on idle computers, but I was wondering how they utilize internet bandwidth. Is the client program consistently sending information, or only upon completion of a task? I only ask because I have a pretty busy server setup. I have no problem with CPU usage when not in use, but bandwidth I cannot afford to sacrifice. Thanks! |

It's per completed task that the result files are uploaded. You can manage it though by setting BOINC's network schedule for valley/off-peak hours, in the client prefs for different hours for each day of the week if it matters. You can also set the max bandwidth/speed for upload and download... whatever you prefer. Separate, you can set a budget of bandwidth used over a time-period. My understanding is, that more work is done for that in the client 7 development. --//-- |
