I have a Mac Mini 2009 Edition laying around that is only hosting a rarely used Vent server. I am interested on putting BOINC on it, but seeing as it only has a Dual Core Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.53GHz, I am unsure if it could be useful. Can someone point me to a project that would run well on the older CPU, and still do enough work for it to be worth doing? I don't want to join a project, and have it take 3 days to do one workunit. Anyway, thanks in advance. |

Any of the present projects can run perfectly on that CPU. It's not that bad. Those 3 day tasks you think of happen on a Pentium 2, running Seti. Your CPU should run circles around that. |

It is not easy to find WUs lasting for less than 12 hours on a Core 2 Duo à 2.53. I run such projects on 2 "old" computers witk Core 2 Duo : - Docking@home (not running under OSX). - Enigma (no work available). |

How about running the Proth Prime Search (LLR) and Sophie Germain Prime Search (LLR) tasks at Primegrid? At Rosetta@Home you can set the target CPU run time in your preferences and then get tasks that take approx. that long. |
