Hello Boinc world, I have a ton of questions, so lets start what i think is a relevant order. We run a company that have a number of GPU servers for our data crunching. We want the spare CPU/GPU cycles to run boinc. All of our boxes are running RHEL 6.3 workstation. We want to run BOINC on about 30 machines. I'm un able to get the generic install (boinc_7.0.28_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh) to install correctly, however, i can get the boinc-client from yum to work. I'm unable to find boinc-manager on the RHEL yum repository. Doing a 'yum search boinc' reveals this: ============================== N/S Matched: boinc ============================== boinc-client.x86_64 : The BOINC client core No boinc manager ever shows up. So my question is, do i need boinc-manager on these machines? I could be wrong, but it seems that i should only need one instance of boinc manager running on the whole grid. If i DON'T need it, is there a page out there with good ideas on managing a number of linux boxes running just the client? If i DO indeed need boinc manager, then how does a fella go about it? When i run the run_manager from the boinc_7.0.28_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh installer, i get the following: ./boincmgr: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_html-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I'm led to believe i need wxwidgets to fix this, so i DL the wxWidgets-2.8.12 and try to run 'configure --with-gtk' and it fails not being able to compile or link. I have glib2-2.22.5-7.el6.x86_64 installed and up to date as well as gcc. I;ve found a boinc manager rpm, and get the following: rpm -ivh boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64.rpm warning: boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 RSA/SHA256 Signature, key ID 0608b895: NOKEY error: Failed dependencies: libwx_baseu-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_baseu-2.8.so.0(WXU_2.8)(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_baseu_net-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_baseu_net-2.8.so.0(WXU_2.8)(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_baseu_xml-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_adv-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_adv-2.8.so.0(WXU_2.8)(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_aui-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so.0(WXU_2.8)(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_html-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_html-2.8.so.0(WXU_2.8)(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_qa-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_richtext-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 libwx_gtk2u_xrc-2.8.so.0()(64bit) is needed by boinc-manager-6.10.45-1.r21128svn.el6.x86_64 again, to me it looks lime more wxwidgets problems. Also, if its recommended to use an alternative to boinc-manager, please let me know. Thanks again for reading this. |

BOINC Manager is just a GUI, an easy means to control BOINC, the client. You don't need it. You can just as well run the BOINC binary and use its command line options, plus the BoincCMD tool for further control from the command line. |

Install BoincTasks on one of your machines to keep track of what's going on: http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/index.html TThrottle The way to control your CPU and GPU temperature. BoincTasks The best view of BOINC. My other activities |

He's running Linux, Fred. Do you have a Linux version already? No and Yes, you have to install Wine. Yes it works quite nicely that way. TThrottle The way to control your CPU and GPU temperature. BoincTasks The best view of BOINC. My other activities |

I have a VM running windows on one of our nodes. I'll install it this week and see how things work. Thanks for the advice. |
