Hello, I'm a newbie so please excuse my lack of detail understanding of BOINC. I've been trying to configure it on my Windows 7 (64 bit) desktop (Intel i7-975) but I'm stuck with a problem. BOINC goes into Suspend after about 1 minute. I've gone through both the Web Preferences and the Local pref's and their all set with "Processor Usage while Computer In Use" checked and "Use GPU While Computer In Use" checked. In Simple View, a message appears on the main screen saying "Other Work Running" however Windows Task Manager shows only System Idle Process is running. In Simple View Preferences, I've tried setting "Customized Preferences" with the default values of "Do Work Anytime" and "Do Work After Idle for:" Run Always. In Advanced View I have the Activity set to Run Always. I Also went into the "Advanced | Preferences made sure the check box for "Computing Allowed while Computer In Use is checked". I've also clicked on the "Read Local Prefs File". Finally, I also went to the Preferences page on the web site and made sure All the same types of settings from above were also set. I've restarted the BOINC several times just to make sure the configs were taken. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I always leave my desktop on over night so it would be nice if it did something constructive when I'm not using it. Thanks, Norm |

There's actually a web-option [not in the client], that sets the client to go to sleep when computer is not in use. The default is I think 20 minutes [at least at WCG]. If you post a copy of the message log, recording the device going idle, we can read back why this is happening. |

You don't say explicitly which project site was it where you made settings but it appears you (nehickel) participate in SETI@Home http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/user/detail/2520978/projectList http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=9775237 ... so I'll give link for it: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=global To work always: Suspend work while computer is in use? no Suspend GPU work while computer is in use? no 'In use' means mouse/keyboard activity in last 3 minutes Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last --- minutes Needed to enter low-power mode on some computers Suspend work when non-BOINC CPU usage is above --- % 0 means no restriction The 'bad' settings that stop you are: Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last 1 minutes Needed to enter low-power mode on some computers Suspend work when non-BOINC CPU usage is above 25 % 0 means no restriction Set both to 0 (zero) (or blank, empty boxes which is the same) ![]() ![]() |
