I have 7.0.28 version of BOINC for 64-bit. I have my computer set to put my monitor to sleep after ten minutes of inactivity, but to never put my computer (hard drive, CPU, etc.) to sleep. However, when I have BOINC running, the monitor never goes to sleep. Is there a way to get this to work? |

Setting your monitor to sleep is a function done through the operating system, not through BOINC itself. You don't say which OS you run. If Widnows Vista or 7, go Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings, and make sure that you set the timer on both "Turn off the display" and Change advanced power settings->Display->Turn off the display. |

I have Windows 7 64-bit. I double-checked and I do indeed have both of those settings set, but they only work when I disable BOINC. I have not had problems with Win7 64-bit and BOINC, but back in my WinXP days I would sometimes have a problem with sleep. One of my tricks was to set the timeout to a short interval (e.g. 1 minute), which usually got it to work. Then I could lengthen it to longer intervals (10 minutes or more) and it would continue to work. There were other methods that I have forgotten, but I think that one of them might have been getting it to work first in an Admin account, and then switching over to a User account. And maybe updating video drivers would help, or disabling other programs. |

Thanks. I tried some of your suggestions. I seem to have it working now. I'm not certain if this is what fixed it, but I noticed a setting under the BOINC Screensaver Settings menu for "Blank screensaver after:" was set to Never. I changed it to 10 minutes and the last two times I've returned to my computer, the monitor's little blue light has been orange (indicating sleep mode). It's possible that trying your suggestions prior to changing this setting is what actually fixed it, but I'm not going to mess with it anymore now that it's working. lol |
