Concerns Regarding Support for Russian Research Projects on BOINC

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep appreciation for your leadership and the remarkable work you have done in advancing scientific research through the BOINC platform. The contributions of BOINC to numerous scientific fields are invaluable, and I wholeheartedly support the vision of distributed computing to address some of the world's most pressing challenges.

However, I am reaching out today to express my concerns regarding the inclusion of Russian-affiliated projects on BOINC, specifically Gerasim@home main page (boinc.ru),
particularly in light of the ongoing situation in Ukraine. The actions of the Russian government, which include widely reported and documented human rights abuses and acts that have been described as genocide, stand in stark contrast to the values of peace, integrity, and scientific progress that BOINC embodies.

While I strongly believe in supporting scientific research across borders and disciplines, I also feel that, in good conscience, it is necessary to reconsider any involvement with Russian research initiatives at this time. Continuing to support these projects could be perceived as a tacit endorsement of the Russian government's actions, which would not reflect well on BOINC's mission and community.

I understand the importance of maintaining the neutrality of science, but I urge you to consider the ethical implications and potential reputational damage associated with supporting Russian projects under the current circumstances. I hope that BOINC can stand firmly on the side of justice and human rights by suspending support for any research affiliated with the Russian state until the situation in Ukraine is resolved in a manner consistent with international law.
